A Canadian man going through a difficult moment in his life or as official said it “in a crisis”, tried to commit suicides by throwing himself over Niagara Falls in the early hours on Tuesday.

Police officers say that the man was seen jumping to the river around 4 A.M. and was then pulled by the strong currents that would eventually sweep him over Horseshoe Falls, the largest part of the world-renowned falls.

Some speculate that the only reason this man survived the falls was due to the high levels of water in those days. According to some research the levels of water flowing in on Tuesday where twice as much as the normal amount that is registered. Hence the water having a higher altitude that helped to a certain extent cushion the fall.

The man (whose identity would not be released by officials) was found sitting on some rocks after his fall by the edge of the river shore, and was then taken to the hospital with some non-life-threatening injuries.

There have been very few cases of people surviving the falls since the 1960s. He is the fifth person to have survived the fall. Tuesday also marked the 56th anniversary of when 7-year-old Roger Woodward was also taken by the current after he had fallen from a boat, he was swept away only to survive the 170-foot drop.
