Chinese lantern festival in Montreal next month

The event will take place in the Montreal Botanical Garden the event "Gardens of light" will include a Chinese lantern festival in the Chinese gardens. There will also be other this place from part of the First Nation and the Japanese Gardens with light installations and projections.

The lantern festival takes place to celebrate one of China's favorite festival. The Moon festival is a harvest celebration that has been commemorated in other countries like Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and other nations in the Asian continent. During the Moon festival people celebrate by gifting each other mooncakes in decorated boxes to show appreciation, people also burn incense in temples to honor their ancestors, and the deity of the festival, the Moon Goddess. Parks and streets will be decorated with lanterns and special displays.

The Montreal Botanical Garden wants to bring this celebration to its public. When fall begins the festival takes place and the gardens become a magical wonderland of lights. This event has become a local favorite and it is something to definitely look forward to.

Most of the lanterns and displays are brought from China for the occasion, the sister city of Shanghai, is an essential partner with the Montreal Botanical Gardens, and they help to makes the event possible. The lanterns are built in Shanghai using the designs and themes from Montreal artist designer My Quynh Duong. Once the concept and creation of the lanterns is finished, they are sent to Montreal to be assembled by buy large groups of people, and to be later put on display in the gardens. Around nine hundred to a thousand lanterns are placed in the grounds for all to enjoy.

There will be lanterns in various shapes and sizes, you can expect to see exotic animals, majestic birds, mystical dragons and even lanterns of people, you can expect a variety of things that are bound to amaze you.

The event has a date set for September 6th and will continue up to October 31st. They do recommend that you come in comfortable clothes and shoes, as you will have to walk around to explore the gardens. Admission fees may vary, and there are special pricing options for groups. Don't forget to also check the garden's hours of operation and event schedules to make the most of your visit.
