Naval base shooting in Pensacola, Florida, leaves four dead

The incident occurred on the morning of this Friday, the facilities remain closed and the identity of the attacker is unknown, which, according to preliminary reports, died at the scene.

A shooting at the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Pensacola, Florida, kept the base closed and left four dead, including the attacker, and at least 11 people injured, who were taken to hospitals in the area.

"The shooter and three victims died and many more were injured and were treated in local hospitals. NAS Pensacola remains in blockade," the US Navy said.

Pensacola police confirmed that police responded to the active shooter. Meanwhile, base spokesman Jason Bortz said both doors and the naval base are closed.

NAS Pensacola employs more than 16,000 military and 7,400 civilians, according to its website. It is one of the bases with more history of the Navy and extends along the southwest coast of the city center.

The base dominates the economy of the surrounding area and includes the National Naval Aviation Museum, a popular regional tourist attraction.

Five people were taken to Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, hospital spokeswoman said. Six more were taken to Ascension Sacred Heart.
