What is an aurora borealis or northern lights?

The northern lights are a natural phenomenon, fascinating, that happens due to the explosions of the sun that travel through space, and that when encountering our planet collide creating a magnificent spectacle in the sky. The particles that the sun emits, are released and when encountering our atmosphere rich in nitrogen and oxygen, they collide and produce their own light, originating there the blue red and green color that the sky takes.

Where can we find aurora borealis?

This phenomenon happens in several regions of the planet, and Canada is a great option if you want to enjoy the show without flying to the poles of the world.

1. Yukon, Vancouver

In this city, there is a center specializing in northern lights, the Northern Lights Center, where you can learn and observe the show from the front row. Also, you can visit fantastic places like the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and thus, live with reindeer, deer, arctic foxes and bison. Also, if you want to relax you can visit the Takhini hot springs, and rejuvenate in its warm waters.

2. YellowKnife, Northwest Territories

YellowKnife is one of the most populated cities in Canada, it is also very close to the Arctic Circle. Here, the northern lights are the center of attention. In Aurora Village, an incredible camp that offers maximum experience with the northern lights, you will find everything you need to enjoy the experience to the fullest, from guides that will answer all your questions on the subject, to tools that will help you withstand the high temperatures, while in your camp you wait for the arrival of the show.

3. Churchill, Manitoba

A favorite place to observe the stunning northern lights. Here, 300 nights of the year, they have auroral activity. This city is located just below the Auroral oval. The arctic animals walk and you can observe them, beluga whales, polar bears, reindeer, and igloos, they are the landscape that surrounds you in Churchill, Canada.
