One person has reported a fraudulent call that they received where scammers claimed to Agents from the Canada Border Service Agents and then the Charlottetown police officers.

The victim of the call, received the calls from the scammers who claimed to be Canada Border Service agents from the number 1-888-502-9060, where the male caller mentioned that he was an agent with the CBSA.

The caller informed the victim that he was the primary suspect in a very major case and criminal investigation and that the Charlottetown police office would also be contacting him and was told that there was an arrest warrant in his name. The “agent” kept telling the victim that the police would arrest him and place him in jail for the estimated time of 48 hours.

Throughout the call with the fake agent, the victim received a second call from the number 902-629-4054, and was told to answer the other call. The person at the other end of the call told the victim that he was an officer from the Charlottetown Police Services and told the victim to again that he was subject of an arrest warrant.

The fake officer then told the victim to do as he was told by the CBSA agent, he was told to go to a drug store and there was told to buy $500 worth of Google Play gift card. The fake officer and agent then told him to scratch the back of the cards and to email him the codes on the gift cards.

Actual agents from CBSA and officer from the Charlottetown Police Service mention that both numbers that were used to call the victim, are in fact the actual phone numbers for both agencies.

Police and agents are warning the public to not fall victim to these types of calls as they never accept any type of payments through such methods.

Should anyone receive call similar to these are advised to hang up and report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at the following number 1-888-495-8501.
