The application Uber is looking to come to the city of Vancouver, but a shortage on drivers might make it hard for the app to provide service outside the Metro Vancouver area. This being because British Columbia regulations for ride hailing have not yet been met by drivers who apply to work for the ride service app.

Both Uber representative and the B.C. government are looking to finalize on decisions on whether the app will launch in the area depending on the policies that are agreed upon by the Passenger Transportation Board in the middle of August. B.C, which may include prices and boundaries.

Seeing it as there are not enough qualified driver the application may only operate within the Metro Vancouver area, for drivers to be qualified they must have a valid commercial driver’s license that is necessary for ride hailing services.

B.C. government says that drivers must have this specific license as it is part of regulations for anyone offering a service like this. The class 4 license is mainly used by taxi drivers, while the majority of everyday driver usually count with a class 5 license.

It won’t be until September 3rd that the Uber application might be accepted, but according with the B.C. regulations it might make it hard for the company to have enough business in the city.

Uber already operates in various cities through out Canada like Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta and the city of New York, even though these cities also require for drivers to have a commercial license for ride hailing drivers to be able to operate.

Uber has informed those interested in working with the app to start the process for acquiring the class 4 license in case they don’t have one, as well as any other process that may be necessary.
