On Monday, Canada lifted its ban on Americans crossing the border for shopping, tourism or visits, although at the moment the United States has maintained similar restrictions on Canadians. Reopening the border has not been an easy task for either countries, as cases continue to rise. But with vaccination made accessible, reopening the border has become a possibility. As of right now US citizens and legal residents must have completed their vaccination and COVID-19 test must be done three days prior with negative results. To the disappointment of many, the closure of the international bridges between the United States and Canada, will continue until the month of September. The announcement comes just as couple of days away before it was announced prior that crossing for non-essential travel would began on August 21. Travel restrictions at the borders of the United States, Mexico and Canada will be extended until August due to new outbreaks of coronavirus.. Health officials will now be at border crossings for COVID-19 screening

As the volume of travellers entering Canada through the U.S. has increased in recent weeks, public health officials are being placed at land borders to bolster screening for COVID-19. The Public Health Agency of Canada is adding on-site employees at 36 points of entry, including those in New Brunswick such as St. Stephen, Woodstock and Edmundston. Canadian airline denies passage to traveller flying to U.S. to see terminally ill husband

A Canadian airline made one of their passengers for through an 'unfortunate situation' according to the airline, due to a misinterpretation of the complex border rules being implemented during the pandemic. Maytte Muscolw who was traveling from Kelowna, B.C. to Cleveland, was denied a boarding pass,as she was told that she could not enter American soil, and if she did she would be fined $1,000.00 dollars. President says measure is to reduce visas for foreign workers and this will help protect American jobs. Non-essential travel restriction will continue until July 21

Both borders of the United States will remain closed to non-essential travel until July 21. The restriction that was implemented in mid-March should have ended next week, but given the continuing increase in Covid-19 cases, these will be extended for another month.
